Beware of Dog is episode 14 of Farscape season 2.

Plot

Moya and her crew visit a prosperous system where they acquire stores of food. D'Argo and Chiana learn that food is often contaminated with dangerous parasites so they acquire a small harmless creature known as a Vorc useful in hunting down and destroying the creatures. The Vorc bites Aeryn on introduction and gets loose.

Crichton reports seeing a large and dangerous creature but Pilot is not quick to believe him as Aeryn suspects, after seeing him talking to and playing games by himself, that he may be suffering some sort of space madness. Crichton is vindicated when others witness the creature and the crew soon finds themselves hunting for this strange creature.

D'Argo is attacked and poisoned and Zhaan is unable to cure him without a sample of the creature's venom. He is placed within Moya's neural nexus field to strengthen him until they can find the cure. John, Aeryn and Chiana go hunting for the Vorc which they suspect is responsible after witnessing the small creature transform into something larger. They manage to sedate it but are unable to find the venom that infected D'Argo.

Crichton injects the creature with translator microbes in order to communicate with it which proves moderately successful. Pilot is able to understand it and realize it didn't intend to harm anyone but was trying to protect them.

They release the creature to continue its hunt for the parasite but when it attacks and incapacitates Rygel, Aeryn and Crichton shoot it. They realize too late that the creature was leading them to a cocoon. It splits it open and reveals Rygel, the real one. The creature that was taken to Zhaan is, in fact, a parasite. They rush to Zhaan's aid just as the false Rygel begins to attack and manage to shoot him before he can. He collapses into hundreds of small insects and Crichton manages to freeze them using gas. Zhaan later cures D'Argo when equipped with a venom sample from the creatures.

Aeryn is saddened that they accidentally killed the innocent Vorc which dies in her arms. Later, she asks Crichton about an incident while hunting the creature in which he almost shot her. Crichton admits that he has been having hallucinations of Scorpius. He admits that though he had the chance to kill him, he was unable to because of something inside him. He tells her that he will ask for help if he feels he needs it.
