Better Halves is episode 6 of Heroes first season. It first aired on October 30, 2006 on NBC and was written by Natalie Chaidez and directed by Greg Beeman.

Plot
Peter and Isaac receive a call from Hiro and Peter delivers the message Hiro from the future gave him: "Save the Cheerleader. Save the World." Unfortunately, they are unable to tell Hiro and Ando where to find the cheerleader. They agree to meet in New York.
Peter and Isaac put his paintings in order but discover one is missing. Simone has taken it to her gallery. Isaac is unable to remember what the painting was of. Peter makes a phone call hoping he'll be able to get it back.
Niki is awake in the middle of the night and discovers her estranged husband, D.L. has returned and entered the house despite the police presence outside. Niki asks him to leave but he insists on staying and says Micah needs his father. An officer knocks at the door asking if everything's ok. She wavers in her response but decides not to tell him about D.L.
D.L. reveals that he planned to steal two million from Linderman. Someone found about the plan, and killed his crew. He knows it was a woman. He plans to contact someone who might know who tried to frame him.
D.L. and Niki argue about the past. They reveal that D.L. previously worked in construction but he wanted more. He went to work for Linderman hoping to make more money to take care of his family. Despite their arguments, Niki invites him to spend the night with her.
Niki and D.L. wake up together the next morning. D.L. reveals he heard her get up in the middle of the night. She doesn't remember. The alter ego gives her aknowing look in the mirror. Micah comes into the room, happy to see his father. Micah shows him all his comics, including a copy of "Ninth Wonder".
Micah asks his father how he got out of jail. D.L. says he walked out. He says no jail can hold him because he has a secret. D.L. tells Niki he's not running anymore. He's going to find the woman that set him up and killed his crew.
Claire's father reveals that he has spoken to her biological parents. She talks to Zach about her concerns and wonders if her parents are like her. She has a very awkward meeting with them and they don't reveal anything she wants to know other than a history of diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.
While trying to leave the parking garage in Las Vegas, Ando and Hiro are accosted by the gamblers they cheated at poker. The men want to play another game. Ando and Hiro arrange to cheat the game again. Hiro stops time and rearranges their cards, giving Ando a great hand.
Hiro trips and falls and Ando goes down to help him and notices on of the men has a gun under the table pointed at him. Realizing they're in danger, he rushes Hiro off to the bathroom and reveals they intend to kill him.
While in the bathroom they hear screams and banging. The bathroom door caves in. The players are all dead. Hiro is stunned to realize he couldn't save them and questions his status as a hero. Ando suggests that maybe when he learns to better control his ability, he'll be able to come back to the moment and save them.
Mohinder packs to return to India. He talks to Eden about his experience with Peter. He reveals that he thinks Peter is crazy. He doubts Isaac, the painter even exists. Eden is disappointed he isn't continuing to look into his father's work but she's certain he will return. She kisses him, and says she'll see him later.
Mr. Bennet receives a call from Eden. She reveals that Mohinder is left. She tells him about Peter and what Mohinder told her about their meeting. She tells him about Hiro's message to save the cheerleader and he is momentarily stunned. Eden asks what she should do about the precog, and Mr. Bennet tells her to bring him in.
D.L. and Niki goes to find they guys he was planning to meet. They work for Linderman. They are the same gamblers Hiro and Ando heard being killed. D.L. and Niki find their bodies ripped apart. Niki recognizes the scene. She explains to D.L. what happened with Linderman's men and how she killed them. He believes someone else set her up.
Niki goes to her room to think about things and ends up having a conversation with her alter ego. Her suspicions are proven true. she was the one who double crossed D.L. and killed his crew. She stole the money and has hidden it in the rafters of her house. Her alter ego convinces her that D.L. won't understand and that she needs to retrieve the money and take Micah.
Niki reluctantly agrees and crawls into the roof to get the briefcase. Once she has retrieved it, D. L. comes into the room and recognizes the case. He realizes what she's done. Niki tries to explain but he doesn't believe her. Her alter ego takes over and with one punch, throws him across the room. She begins to strangle him and Micah walks into the room. D.L.'s power is revealed when his hand is seen going right into Niki's torso. Niki collapses unto the floor and D.L. grabs Micah and runs.
Eden visits Isaac at his studio.
