Beppo is a fictional monkey from the planet Krypton. He had all of Superman's powers
History
Unlike most Superman characters, he has so far been strictly confined to the Silver Age of Comics continuity, which admittedly targeted a younger audience than Superman Comics today.
Origin and Character History
Originally used by Jor-El a a test animal, Beppo snuck aboard the rocket Jor-El used to send Jor-El's infant son, Kal-El to Earth (where he eventually became known as Superman).
Beppo has the same powers as Superman. When he eventually showed up, years after Kal-El's arrival, he created quite a bit of mischief for the Kents. Later, he returned again to become friends with the Silver Age Supergirl, who was known to acquire more super-pets than anyone.
Beppo would also team up with Comet, the Super-Horse, Streaky, the Super-Cat, and Krypto, the Super-Dog and Proty II to help out the Legion of Super-Heroes. They were officially designated an "animal branch" of the organization, referred to as The Legion of Super-Pets.
Like all the Super-Pets during the Silver Age of Comics, we learned about what Beppo was thinking with thought balloons. It turned out that these amazing animals were quite logical thinkers. When readers complained that this seemed unrealistic, editors replied that the animal's powers gave them "super-intelligence". While Krypto and Streaky seemed to think in normal English, Beppo always thought in baby talk, like Superbaby does on the cover pictured above. For example, when deciding to follow Saturn Girl, Beppo thought, "Me like her!" I guess Beppo had a little less "super-intelligence" than the others.
