Robert Benedic Browder (b. December 11, 1962–) is an American actor best known for his lead roles in two hit TV series on the SCI FI Channel. He stars as John Crichton in Farscape, and as Cameron Mitchell in Stargate SG-1.
Browder was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and earned a BS in psychology at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Afterward, he went to London's Central School of Speech and Drama, where he met his wife, Francesca Buller. He started with several small movie parts and Shakespearean theater, eventually earning a recognizable role in Memphis Belle (1990). His big break came as a recurring character in the hit dramatic TV series Party of Five (1994). After the demise of Farsacpe, he was featured an indie film named A Killer Within where he played Sam Moss as well as a made-for-TV movie called Behind The Curtain: Charlie's Angeles where he played Lee Majors. He was considered for the role of John Sheppard in Stargate Atlantis, but couldn't do it because he was filming Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars at the time. He later won the role of Cameron Mitchell, leader of SG-1 on Stargate SG-1's nineth and 10th seasons. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Francesca Buller and two children.
Farscape
In Farscape, Browder plays Earth astronaut John Crichton, who travels through a wormhole during a test flight, and winds up in a distant part of the universe that is populated by aliens. Crichton is the only character who has been in all 88 episodes of the show, and also appeared in the miniseries, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars.
Stargate SG-1
Browder joined the cast of SG-1 in 2005, playing the role of Colonel Cameron Mitchell. Mitchell is the latest addition to the SG-1 team, taking the lead in lieu of Colonel Jack O'Neill. He is known for making corny jokes and pop culture references.
