Beast Boy is a fictional comic book superhero character owned by DC Comics. Also known by the name "Changeling", he is associated with both the Doom Patrol and the Teen Titans.
As a child, Garfield contracted a rare illness and was cured by a serum extracted from some strange green monkey. This serum had the unintended effect of turning his skin and hair green and gave him the ability to change into the shape of any animal of his choice. Garfield was ten years old when his parents were killed in a boating accident.
Garfield was placed in custody of Nicholas Galtry, the attorney for his parents' estate., Galtry had embezzled funds from Gar's inheritance. Galtry tried to have the boy killed. This plot was foiled by the superhero team, the Doom Patrol.
Garfield was again in need of a guardian.
Taking on the superhero persona “Beast Boy”, he was adopted by Elasti-Girl and Mento, members of the Doom Patrol, and became an unofficial member of the team. This ended when most of the Doom Patrol , including his adoptive mother, was killed at the end of the series.
As Beast Boy, he participated in the short lived West Coast team of the Teen Titans (known as Titans West).

When the New Teen Titans began in 1980, he and was part of the team assembled by Raven. He changed his name to “Changeling” at this time. He was involved with various incarnations of the team.
He changed his name back to Beast Boy again, in his own limited series called Beast Boy. Following a failed attempt to recreate "Titans West" as "Titans L.A.," he rejoined the main Teen Titans team.
Beast Boy likes to make jokes, and often acts silly and humorous. This is his way of dealing with the pain and tradgedy that has plagued him all his life. While a member of the Teen Titans, Garfield came particularly close to Cyborg, and the friendship has been long lasting.
In the Teen Titans animated TV series, Beast Boy is voiced by Greg Cipes.
