Battlestar Galactica: Razor is a 2007 Battlestar Galactica special which tells the tale of the Battlestar Pegasus, and its travails during the months before finding Galactica. Developed by Ronald D. Moore, the special is directed by Félix Enríquez Alcalá and written by Michael Taylor. Michelle Forbes returns as Pegasus commander, Admiral Helena Cain. The story will also feature the discovery of Gina as a Cylon. Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen appears as Lt. Kendra Shaw, who serves as Lee Adama's XO on board Pegasus. Shaw suffers from terrible memories of the acts committed against her fellow colonists under Admiral Cain's command. The special acts as a lead in for BSG's fourth season which will air in 2008. "Razor" is a term coined by veterans of the first Cylon war and refers to the crucible of war which hones soldiers into a human weapon as deadly to the enemy as it is to an individual's soul.

In preparation for the special, several flashbacks to the first Cylon War aired during new episodes of the Sci Fi series Flash Gordon beginning on October 5. Nico Cortez stars as a young Adama fighting his first Viper battles against the Cylons.

Plot

Razor tells the tale of how Cylon model, Number Six, posing as system's analyst Gina Inviere infiltrated the Battlestar Pegasus and became romantically involved with Admiral Helena Cain. Believing Gina to be a trusted confidant of the admiral, new CIC officer, Kendra Shaw allowed her access to her codes which proved instrumental in the Cylons gaining access to Pegasus during the attack that wiped out the the Scorpian Fleet Shipyards. During the attack, Shaw quickly realized that Gina was one of the Cylons and her quick realization led to Gina's imprisonment and abuse on Pegasus.

Shaw's actions led to Cain's increasing trust of her. Despite her own fears and misgivings Shaw followed orders to execute civilians aboard the civilian vessel Scylla after they resisted Cain's orders to strip the vessels of their FTL drives and valuable personnel. For her actions she was promoted to captain but was wracked by guilt over her actions which led to drug use.

Shaw gained a measure of redemption when the Pegasus joined the Galactica. After Cain's murder, Shaw is promoted to Lee Adama's XO on Pegasus. Shaw joins a team including Kara Thrace on a mission to rescue two raptor pilots. The mission goes terribly wrong and Shaw gives her life in order to detonate a nuclear warhead and destroy a Cylon base. She comes across the first Cylon hybrid who warns her that Kara Thrace would lead humanity to its end. She attempts to warn Pegasus of that fact bit her message is never received before she is killed in the nuclear explosion.
