Battle cries are something that some characters, especially superheroes, yell when they are fighting (or going into a challenging situation). This may be to motivate them personally, and/or to intimidate the enemy. It's a way to say, "Have at thee, varlet!" or in the vernacular of the 2000s, "Bring it on!"

A battle cry may also serve as a "rallying cry", designed to gather a group together (for example, "Avengers, Unite!").
