Basil Rathbone (Philip St. John Basil Rathbone) (June 13, 1892 – July 21, 1967) was a South African-born British stage actor, who moved to America after 1922. He portrayed a memorably urbane villain in such films as The Mad Doctor (1940) and Fingers at the Window (1941). As Baron Wolf von Frankenstein he unwisely revived his father’s experiments in Son of Frankenstein (1939) and he will always be remembered as the definitive Sherlock Holmes on stage, screen and radio. During the 1960's he revived his career in a number of teen-oriented films for American International Pictures, including Tales of Terror (1962), The Comedy of Terrors (1963), Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet (1965), Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966), and Queen of Blood (1966), but he ended his career in such trash as Hillbillys in a Haunted House (1967) and the Mexican comedy Autopsy of a Ghost (1967).
