Babes in Toyland is a 1961 musical fantasy directed by Jack Donohue. The film is a remake of the 1934 Laurel and Hardy fantasy of the same name. The movie was nominated for Academy Awards for its musical score and costume design. Ray Bolger stars as the evil Barnaby who steals Mary Quite Contrary's sheep from Little Bo Peep's care on the eve of Mary's wedding to Tom the Piper's Son. His crime forces Mary to marry Barnaby. Barnaby's henchmen, Gonzorgo and Roderigo sell Tom to gypsies allowing him to escape to rescue Mary, Bo-Peep and others and travel to Toyland.
