B'Elanna Torres (b. 2349) is a fictional character on the series Star Trek: Voyager played by Roxann Dawson. B'Elanna was a member of Maquis before joining the crew of USS Voyager and becoming the ship's chief engineer. B'Elanna is half Klingon and half Human raised solely by her mother (Miral) on Federation colony Kessik IV following her father's (John Torres) decision to leave the family and return to Earth in 2354. She is noted for her hot temper, in part due to her Klingon half as well as deep seated anger towards her father and herself for not being human enough for him. She eventually grew apart from her mother due to their conflicted relationship. Miral later returned to the Klingon homeworld after B'Elanna joined Star Fleet.

B'Elanna attended Star Fleet Academy but dropped out in 2368 at age 19 and joined the Maquis. She served as engineer on board Chakotay's vessel along with several other Maquis. When the vessel was destroyed in the Delta Quadrant, the Maquis crew joined the crew of Voyager.

While on Voyager, B'Elanna fell in love with Lt. Tom Paris. The two wed in 2376 and B'Elanna gave birth to their daughter, Miral Paris, during Voyager's dramatic return to the Alpha quadrant in 2378.
