Major science fiction and fantasy awards include (in alphabetical order):

• The Arthur C. Clarke Award is a juried award sponsored by Arthur C. Clarke given to the best SF novel published each year in the UK.

• The Bram Stoker Award is given for "outstanding achievement in the dark fantasy/horror/occult genre by the membership of the Horror Writers Association. Its trophy is a fanciful "haunted house" designed by Steven Kirk.

• The British Fantasy Awards are given by the British Fantasy Society. The novel award is named after August Derleth and a special award is named for Karl Edward Wagner. An occasional award for most promising newcomer is called the Icarus Award.

• The British Science Fiction Awards are sponsored by the British Science Fiction Association, and awarded each year at the annual Eastercon convention to best book, short fiction, media, and artist.

• The Chesley Award is given by the Association of Science Fiction & Fantasy Artists (ASFA) "as a means for the SF and fantasy community to recognize individual works and achievements during a given year." The award is named for astronomical artist Chesley Bonestell.

• The Crawford Award is presented by the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts to honor a fantasy novelist whose first novel or novels were published during the preceding 18 months. The award is named for William L. Crawford.

• The Hugo Award is given annually recognizing science fiction or fantasy stories and related areas in fandom, art and dramatic presentation. The awards are presented at the World Science Fiction Convention ("Worldcon") and determined by members of that convention. The award is named after Hugo Gernsback, the founder of the pioneering science fiction magazine Amazing Stories. The physical Hugo Award was co-designed by Jack McKnight and Benedict Jablonski who based the trophy on a rocket-shaped hood ornament from an Oldsmobile 88.

• The International Horror Guild Award is bestowed for "outstanding achievements in the field of horror and dark fantasy." Recommendations are taken from the public at large, but a panel of judges determines nominations and the final awards. Its physical award is associated with a figurine or representation of a gargoyle.

• The James Tiptree, Jr. Award is an annual literary prize of $1000 for "science fiction or fantasy that explores and expands the roles of women and men for work by both women and men". It's named after Alice B. Sheldon, who wrote under the pseudonym James Tiptree, Jr. for many years before revealing her identity and real name. It is an adjudicated award.

• The John W. Campbell Memorial Award is awarded each year to the best SF novel published in the United States. It is an adjudicated award.

• The Mythopoeic Awards are juried awards given each year by the Mythopoeic Society to acknowledge works of fiction and scholarship that exemplify "“the spirit of the Inklings" (J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and Charles Williams).

• The Nebula Awards are bestowed by members of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) to acknowledge excellence in science fiction writing. The award itself is a transparent block with an embedded glitter spiral nebula. Nebula Awards is a registered trademark of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.

• The Philip K. Dick Award is given to the best original paperback published each year in the US. Five judges read submissions from publishers and determine both nominees and winner. Judges choose their own successors and only writers or academics are eligible to be judges. The awards were created and named for the writer who, though increasingly renowned after his death in 1982, was published mostly in undistinguished paperback editions during his career.

• The Saturn Awards are presented annually by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films to honor the works of science fiction, fantasy, and horror in film, television, and home video.

• The Scream Awards were first presented by Spike TV in 2006. The awards cover horror, sci fi, fantasy, and comic books. Fans vote for nominees. Official Site

• The Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award is awarded each year to the best work if short fiction published in the US. It is an adjudicated award.

• The World Fantasy Awards are associated with the World Fantasy Convention and recognize outstanding fantasy. Two nominations for World Fantasy in each category come from the associated convention with further nominations and final awards being determined by a panel of judges. These judges change each year and judges may serve only once. The physical award is a silver bust of H. P. Lovecraft designed by Gahan Wilson.
