Atom Man's Flying Saucers is chapter 13 in the Atom Man vs. Superman serial.

Luthor's thugs (Carl and Foster) attack the Daily Planet building with the thermo-gun to destroy evidence Lois has gathered against Luthor. Sparks fly inside the building, and objects become too hot to hold. Clark changes into Superman and flies outside. The villians aim the thermo-gun at him, and (in cartoon form) he crashes into a high wire line (with 34,500 volts, according to a sign we see later). Steeling (or Man of Steeling) himself, he flies back. The thugs speculate that the shock revived him. The ray machine malfunctions: apparently, rays bouncing back from Superman affected it. Back in the office, Perry comments on the important papers destroyed. Fortunately, Superman tells them that Clark gave him a paper with Luthor's own hand-writing that implicates Luthor in the safe jobs. Jimmy thinks Clark might be right that Luthor is the Atom Man. Superman confirms it.

Superman points out the van (Car 4) that the crooks used, as it drives away. Perry arranges for a police car to take Jimmy and Lois in pursuit. The thugs call Luthor, who instructs them to return to the headquarters. Superman flies to Luthor's office, in case he tries to run. Luthor informs his secretary he is leaving for an indefinite period, and then uses the coin to activate the teleporter which takes him and his henchman to the secret cave hideout. Luthor uses a remote viewing device to see Superman rifling his office. Luthor says, "Even Superman can't find any clues."

Carl and Foster realize they are followed by the police car and call Luthor. Luthor instructs them to go to Rocky Glen where Luthor will destroy the truck and "maybe some of my enemies along with it".

The crooks get out of the car. Over the radio, Luthor confirms that they have left the power reception switch on. Luthor instructs Albert (in the cave headquarters with him) to "warm up the master mechanism". He tells Carl and Foster to let him know when someone starts to open the van doors.

The police car arrives.

 Jimmy: "Wait a minute.  Superman warned us not to get too close
 to that truck."
 Lois: "Well, it looks deserted enough.  What can happen?"

Jimmy, Lois and two police officers approach the truck. Luthor tells Albert to hit the truck with the full beam. Superman's voice echoes from the sky, telling Lois to stop. Now the foursome on the ground run for cover behind some rocks, and the van explodes. Superman spots Carl and Foster in hiding, and they realize they've been seen. They call to get beamed back to headquarters.

Superman can feel the vibration of the power beam. He flies back along its path, and the others follow in the police car. The beam machine starts to spark, and the bad guys realize someone is traveling along it towards them. Luthor has lined the cave with lead to block Superman's x-ray vision, but realizes that the Man of Steel will have the area searched.

 Luthor: "We must move to our final headquarters in the highest 
 mountain.  After that, we'll take off in our spaceship, from which
 we'll rain terror upon our Earthly enemies."

Superman has Perry call a conference with the Chief of Police. He plans with the Chief to locate the Atom Man by having Clark and Lois fly over the area where he is sure the headquarters must be located. Police cars will be stationed on all the roads to observe what happens and be ready to go into action. Superman flies out the window.

 Perry to Lois: "Find Clark and take off from the airport at once."
 Lois: "Where should I find him, under his desk?"

Superman changes back into Clark Kent in the storage room. He sees some papers under a desk and goes to retrieve them, so Lois does find him under his desk.

Clark is flying the plane over the area, and Lois is with him.

Luthor observes them from the cave, and says it is exactly what he thought they would do. He instructs Albert to send out the saucer.

A (cartoon) flying saucer whistles through the air and heads for the reporters' plane. We see the saucer crash into the plane, and there is a huge explosion.
