Atlantus Outpost

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

The Atlantus Outpost is an Ancient base in the fictional Stargate universe. It is all that remains of Ancient civilization on Earth. The outpost was left behind after the city of Atlantis—known in the Ancient language as Atlantus—left Earth for the Pegasus Galaxy several million years ago. The outpost was covered in ice for several millennia before it was rediscovered by Jack O'Neill in the Stargate SG-1 episode "Lost City, Part 2."

When O'Neill downloaded the Ancient repository for a second time in "Lost City, Part 1," the Ancient knowledge led him to an Ancient outpost known as Taonas on the planet Proclarush or as spoken when dialed Proclarush Taonas. Proclarush was destroyed when its sun, a red giant, neared the end of its life cycle. When visited by SG-1, the planet was covered in lava, but Taonas's shielded control room was still accessible.

On Taonas, Jack brought up a holographic projection of Earth, pointed to Antarctica and said the words: "Terra Atlantus" (translation: Earth, Atlantis). Jack removed Taonas's Zero Point Module and brought it to Earth. He used it to replace the depleted ZPM in the Atlantus outpost. The ZPM powered the outpost's control chair, enabling it to fire thousands of drones to destroy Anubis's fleet as they attacked Earth.

After the battle, the drones were reduced to a minimum and the ZPM was near depletion. An international team led by Dr. Elizabeth Weir was brought in to study the outpost's technology. The team included Dr. Carson Beckett, a medical doctor with the ATA gene; Dr. Rodney McKay, an astrophysicist and engineer; and Dr. Peter Grodin. Dr. Daniel Jackson, an expert in the Ancient language, also studied the outpost and was the one who discovered the address to the city of Atlantis in the distant Pegasus galaxy.

Dr. Weir gathered an expedition team to travel to Atlantis. The only way to make the connection was to use the remaining power of the outpost's ZPM, depleting it completely. Without power provided by the ZPM, studying the outpost is undoubtedly a challenge. Earth has made some headway using Naquadah Generator power technology. It is very likely that an international team continues to study the outpost, as it remains Earth's most powerful defense.
