Astro Boy is a 1963 anime series. The black and white animated series is the first anime to find its way to American television and proved popular. 104 episodes aired in the US of 193 episodes which aired in Japan. The series was revived in 1980 and that series also aired in the US. A 3-D animated film based on the series will debut in 2009.

Astro Boy was a robot boy built with a mechanical heart. He had emotions and could love, but of course had no real parents. Astro Boy had rocket jets in his feet, and could use them to fly. Professor Elephant, his mentor, eventually provided him with robot parents.
