Arnold Schwarzenegger is an Austrian bodybuilder who became an action movie icon in the 1980s. Schwarzenegger's first film, Pumping Iron, earned him the attention of the American public in 1977. In it, the many-times bodybuilding champion showed a sly wit and an ability to psych out his fellow competitors. Some of these character traits have been adapted and enhanced in his starring roles in blockbuster action movies.

It wasn't until his portrayal of the title character in James Cameron's 1984 film, The Terminator, that Schwarzenegger became a worldwide celebrity. He played an indestructible robotic killing machine sent back from the future to change the past. His famous line of dialogue, "I'll be back," became a touchstone for the humor that occasionally lightened the serious characters he often portrayed.

Schwarzenegger was born July 30, 1947, in Austria, the son of a policeman. He has been in numerous science fiction genre films. In addition to all the sequels to Terminator, Schwarzenegger also appeared in The Running Man, Total Recall, True Lies, and the first Predator movie. He also played Conan the Cimmerian in Conan the Barbarian (1982) and Conan the Destroyer (1984), wearing outfits that showed off his scuplted body to excellent effect.

As of 2006, Schwarzenegger is the governor of California and is married to Maria Shriver.
