Armin Shimerman

Armin Shimerman is an American actor well known to fans of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Quark and fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Principal Snyder. He was born on November 5, 1949, in Lakewood, New Jersey, and moved to Los Angeles with his family at age 16. As a means of expanding her son's social circle, his mother enrolled him in a drama group. He went on to attend the University of California at Los Angeles and graduated with a degree in English. He then apprenticed at the San Diego Old Globe Shakespeare Theatre where he became a leading comic actor.

He moved to New York where he became a stage actor, performing in the production 3 Penny Opera and the Broadway productions St. Joan, I Remember Mama, and Broadway. He later returned to Los Angeles and began working in television. He guest starred on the series Cagney & Lacey and The Facts of Life and landed a recurring role on Beauty and the Beast and Brooklyn Bridge. He has also had guest roles on Alien Nation, and Married with Children. He guest starred on three episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation as different characters including a role as another Ferengi before taking on the role of the Ferengi, Quark, in the episode "First Born". He reprised the role as a main character on Star Trek:DS9. He also guest starred as Quark in the premier episode of Star Trek: Voyager, "Caretaker, Part 1."

Other sci-fi roles include guest spots on Stargate SG-1 as the Nox Anteaus, Sliders , Charmed, Tremors and Invasion. His unique voice has also led to several voice roles for video games and animated series such as Justice League, X-Men Legends, Psychonauts and Ben 10.

In addition to acting, Shimerman has taught acting at the High School of the Performing Arts, the Theatricum Botanicum, the Tyrone Guthrie Theatre, the College of Idaho and UCLA. He has also written the Star Trek Novels Wheels within Wheels and The 34th Rule. He is a National Board Member of the Screen Actors Guild.
