Aric is a fictional character from the Black Hammer novels. He was born in the eastern Kingdom of Gelmore. When he was a boy, the Lorg, a savage race, had put his village to the torch. As the raiders butchered his people, he had fled, running until he could run no more. He awoke in a cabin deep within the forest that surrounded his village. A tracker had found him unconscious and took him in. The hunter taught him how to survive in the deep woods and instilled a sense of worth in him. It was from this kind man that Aric had learned right from wrong. To honor the tracker who had saved his life, he had taken his name, leaving his own identity behind.

Aric met Sargon and Grimmric in the Kingdom of Dalkoria. Together, the three men journeyed through the lands, building a reputation for themselves as brave and skillful explorers. Aric, having been poor for most of his life, champions the weak and less fortunate.
