Anna Friel (b. July 12, 1976, Rochdale, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom) is an English actress who came to fame as British soap star before her way unto the stage and across the pond to American film and television.
Friel began acting as a teen in theater and made her television debut on the BBC series, In Their Shoes and followed up with appearances on other popular series such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale. She is most remembered for her role on the soap opera Brookside which she joined in 1993. Friel left the series in 1997 and made her film debut in the WWII drama The Land Girls which also starred Rachel Weisz. She then appeared in the Russian film The stringer, The Tribe with Joely Richards and St. Ives. In 1999, she appeared as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream (1999) alongside Kevin Kline and Michelle Pfeiffer. Other notable films include Rogue Trader, The Fear, Watermelon, Timeline, Perfect Strangers, and the title role in Bathory as the murderous Elizabeth Bathory.
In 2007, she took on the role of Charlotte "Chuck" Charles in the ABC series Pushing Daisies. She is scheduled to appear in Goal!3, the sequel to Goal! and Goal II: Living the Dream in which she also appeared.
