Animation

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Animation is the art of making inanimate objects appear to move and be alive to audiences.

This is typically achieved in one of four ways:

  • Traditional animation, in which drawings change slightly from one frame to the next and are photographed individually. When run together at an appropriate speed, the brain interprets this as one moving item rather than a series of individual pictures
  • Pixilation, in which real three-dimensional objects (including actors), are moved a bit between each frame. This is also known as stop-motion animation
  • Claymation, which takes clay and remolds it between each frame
  • Computer animation, in which the same effect is accomplished by a computer
