Angela Bassett

Angela Bassett (b. August 16, 1958, New York City, NY) is an Academy Award-nominated American actress well known for her roles in films like Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and her break through Oscar-nominated performance in What's Love Got to Do with It in which she played iconic rock star, Tina Turner.

Bassett grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida and after high school, attended Yale drama school where she earned her BA in drama and also entered the graduate program in the same subject before leaving to focus on her professional career.

She began her career in television making guest appearances on The Cosby Show, Tour of Duty and A Man Called Hawk and her genre debut in a guest spot on Alien Nation. She made her film debut in Kindergarten Cop starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and her first genre film appearance in the horror sequel Critters 4. Bassett's genre contributions include appearances on the series The Flash, Nightmare Cafe, Vampire in Brooklyn, a Saturn Award-winning performance in Strange Days, Contact, Supernova, Alias, Meet the Robinsons.

In 2009, Bassett appears in the biopics Notorious and Toussaint.
