Angel is a fictional comic book superhero, owned by Marvel Comics. He is most famous for his association with the group the X-Men, for whom he was an original member.
The Angel is a mutant who can fly by means of his natural wings that grow out of his back. The wings span 16 feet across, hollow bones, special membranes that protect his eyes at high speed, the ability to breath more efficiently at great heights and at high speeds, and greater muscle mass than humans. In other words, everything about his body is designed for flight. He usually flies at about 70 miles per hour, though can swoop up to 180 miles per hour, and can reach 150 miles per hour when aided by a strong wind.
Character Origin
Born to wealthy parents (principal stockholders in Worthington Industries), Warren attends a private school in his teen years. At adolescence, his wings begin to grow in. At first he feels like a freak, and hides the wings by strapping them tightly to his back and concealing them under his clothes. Once he begins to fly, he starts to enjoy his wings. When there is a fire in his dormitory, he uses his power to secretly rescue the people inside. He disguises himself with a long blond wig and a long nightshirt, and people think he is an angel. Realizing that he can help people with his gift, Warren takes on the costumed identity of the Avenging Angel, and begins to operate as a vigilante in New York City. It was there that Professor X finds him, and recruits him into the X-Men, and he takes the code name the Angel.
At one point, Warren's wings are damaged in battle and have to be amputated. He is then captured by the villain Apocalypse, who remakes him with blue skin and metal wings, and brainwashes him to use as one of his "Four Horseman". Angel eventually beats the brainwashing, and for a while changes his name to Archangel. Eventually, his natural wings grow back and he becomes Angel again, though his skin color remains blue.
