Andromeda Ascendant

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

The Andromeda Ascendant is a spaceship in Gene Roddenberry's fictive universe.

The ship was one of many in the Systems Commonwealth military. When the Nietzcheans turned against the Commonwealth and went to war, Andromeda and Captain Dylan Hunt became trapped on the edge of a black hole, frozen in time for three hundred years.

Three hundred years later, the Commonwealth has fallen and salvager Beka Valentine, captain of the Eureka Maru rescue the ship. Dylan finds the universe very different from the one he left. It is a chaotic mess and he's determined to fix it and re-establish the Commonwealth. Beka, engineer Seamus Harper, and Nietzchean, Tyr Anasazi, and Rev Bem become a part of his crew as he struggles to return order to the universe.

The ships computer is an artificial intelligence often simply called Andromeda. She is capable of navigating the ship and making all systems work, but she is unable to travel faster than light on her own. The ship is enormous in size and weaponry. The Andromeda is able to carry hundreds of small fighting ships (usually controlled remotely form the bridge or by Andromeda), few types of different weapons, even nova-bombs. She also has an inner security system and androids capable of defending the ship on their own. In the third episode of the first season, Andromeda became capable of defending herself through an android, Romie designed by Seamus Harper. Andromeda's main goal is - besides reconstructing the Commonwealth - to become as human as possible on her level.

As a computer system, Andromeda is incredibly complicated and advanced. At the beginning of the series, Seamus Harper entered Andromeda's system and intended to hack the system to take direct control of the ship. But Andromeda was able to protect herself and gave Harper a light shock of energy. She is also protected by nanobots in case of an attack.
