Ancient repository of knowledge

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

On the series Stargate, the Ancient Repository of Knowledge is an Ancient technological device that stores vast amounts of their history, language, and technology. The device was first encountered in "The Fifth Race". It was discovered on a blank wall on P3R-272.

Spoiler Warning: Plot details and/or information about the ending follow. If you wish to enjoy the work first, stop reading here and return at another time.

The device was activated by Jack O'Neill, though Teal'c was the first to look inside the device's viewing port. The device had no effect on him. When O'Neill looked inside it however, it reached out and grabbed his head holding it in place. O'neill was rendered unconscious momentarily but soon recovered. He later discovered the device had downloaded the knowledge of the Ancients in his mind and the information was gradually unspooling and replacing his spoken language rendering him unable to speak and eventually understand anything but Ancient.

Designed for an Ancient mind, the information was dangerous. O'Neill was able to use some of the information to create a diagram of the DHD enabling its repair. He also created a temporary generator that enabled him to make a connection with a stargate in another galaxy. He visited The Asgard who were easily able to remove the knowledge from his mind and save his life.

O'Neill downloaded the library a second time in "Lost City, Part 1". The information followed the same pattern enabling him to enhance a Goa'uld vessel to travel faster to the planet Proclarush Taonas, a former Ancient outpost, and retrieve a ZPM that would power a second outpost hidden beneath the ice of Antarctica. After using the outpost's control chair's drone weapons to defeat Anubis, O'Neill went into stasis. He was later saved by the Asgard again, but not before they used the knowledge in his mind to create a device to fight off the Replicators. On his second use of the device, O'Neill developed the ability to heal, a known ability of Ancients on the path to Ascension.

The device was seen once again in "The Quest, Part 2" when SG-1 managed to revive Merlin. Merlin used the device to begin the recreation of the Sangraal, a weapon to fight the Ori. It was made clear that an Ancient mind was able to control the flow of information but the process was wearing. Merlin did not survive to complete the technology but Daniel Jackson, knowing the risk, continued the work using the device which downloaded all Merlin's memories into his mind. Following his use of the device, he developed telekinetic abilities as witnessed in other advance humans.
