Anansi, also known as Anansi the Spider is a West African god believed to have originated with Ashanti tribe. Anansi, a known trickster, acts as an intermediary on behalf of his father Nyame, bringing rain to put out forest fires and control rivers. Anansi's mother is the earth goddess Asase Ya. The character of Anansi can also be seen in Caribbean stories.
