Believing she had come across "the others", Ana-Lucia accidentally shot and killed Shannon Rutherford. She was later shot and killed by Michael Dawson after surviving on the island for 65 days.
Before the crash
Ana-Lucia worked as an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. She was shot in the line of duty and miscarried the baby she was carrying at the time. Against the wished of her mother and commanding officer, Teresa Cortez, she returned to duty and when asked to identify the man who shot her, Jason Elder, lied claiming he was not the one. She later sought him out and killed him, taking revenge for herself and the baby she'd lost. She then quit her job and began working at LAX as a security officer.
She met Dr. Christian Shephard at a bar at the airport and he offered her a job as his bodyguard on his trip to Australia. Ana agreed but later, after witnessing Christian's drunken confrontation with Lindsey she decided to return home. She met Jack Shephard at the airport and the two had a conversation in which he told her of his father's death though Ana remained unaware he was talking about Christian.

It's usually best to give a very general overview to a story first, then plot details. When including the plot or essential details in your article (which could ruin the pleasure of discovery for some readers), it is important to include the spoiler tag before any give-away material.
