An Unearthly Child is a four episode serial that began season 1 of the long-running program Doctor Who. Its first episode premiered in the UK on November 23rd, 1963.

Synopsis

Schoolteachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright are baffled by one of their students, Susan Foreman. The girl has remarkably expert knowledge in some subjects, but seems incredibly backwards in others. Letting their curiosity get the better of them, they follow Susan home one night, but they're in for far more than what they bargained. The old man that claims to be her grandfather is far from friendly and his intentions seem less than good. Who is he and what is the secret he's hiding?

Trivia

The original title of this serial appears to have been "100,000 BC." However, since the episodes from the first few seasons of the program also had individual titles, the titles for the stories themselves never actually appeared on screen. For several stories, including this one, this has resulted in the story being ultimately known by a title other than what appeared on the scripts. In this case, the serial is now known by the title of its first episode.
