Amy Acker

Amy Louise Acker (born December 5, 1976, in Dallas, Texas) is an American actor. She was part of the beloved "Buffyverse" as the physicist Winifred "Fred" Burkle on Angel.

Acker is the eldest of four children born to a lawyer Robert Acker and homemaker sandra Bruyere. Her early aspirations were in dance and she studied ballet, modern and jazz. After 13 years of dance, she underwent knee surgery ending her career as a dancer. She took up acting while in high school.

Acker attended Southern Methodist University in 1996 where she earned a BFA in acting. She also trained in weapons as part of her acting education. Her first television role was on the series Wishbone. While in school, she modeled for the J.Crew Catalog and spent time in Japan modeling. She also performed in serveral stage productions including Beast on the Moon at Stage West, Balm in Gilead, and Apparent wind. She also appeared in the 1999 mini series "To Serve and Protect as Melissa Jorgenson.

Following her graduation from university she appeared on stage with the American Players Theater in Wisconsin in productions of Much Ado About Nothing and Master Builder. She then moved to Ne York planning to continue in theater but instead appeared in the independent film The Accident. She followed up with a guest role on Special Unit 2 and William Shatner's Groom Lake.

In 2001, she auditioned for a role on the series Angel. She joined the series in its third season as Winifred Burkle. Her character was killed in the fifth season and reemerged as Illyria. Her performance won her a 2003 Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television. In 2003, she appeared in the comedy Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt.

When Angel came to an end in 2004, Acker turned to film, appearing in The Novice, Mr. Dramatic, and The Perfect Man. She guest starred on Supernatural and lent her voice to episodes of Justice League as Huntress. In 2005, she joined the cast of Alias in its final season as the villainous Kelly Peyton.

Personal Life

Acker married James Carpinello April 25, 2003 and they have two children, Jackson James and Ava Grace.
