The United States of America is a country in North America.

It is also known as the United States, USA, US, America, and variations of those, although some of those terms may refer to other things as well.

Inhabitants are generally referred to as Americans.

It has fifty states, as well as districts, possessions, affiliated countries, and so on.

The United States has been particularly successful in exporting its Sci Fi to other countries. American movies are seen around the world: American TV series are often shown (dubbed or otherwise) as well. American literature may not have the same level of penetration, but may be translated into hundreds of languages.

America is also seen as a huge consumer of foreign popular culture. While the balance of trade certainly favors American exporting over importing, British Sci Fi and Japanese productions (in particular) have had a big impact in the US.
