Amber Nicole Benson (b. January 8 , 1977) is an American actress, writer and director from Birmingham, Alabama. Benson is best known for her role as Tara Maclay on the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She began studying singing, dancing, and acting as a child. Her vocal talents can be heard in the Buffy musical episode Once More With Feeling. In her teen years, she participated in community theater. She pursued acting as a career when her family moved to Los Angeles.

Benson's first film role was in the film adaptation of the A. E. Hotchner novel, King of the Hill. She also appeared in The Crush with Alicia Silverstone. She appeared in several other films and series, including Can't Hardly Wait with Jennifer Love Hewitt before joining the cast of Buffy in the series' third season. Following the end of her run on Buffy, she starred in the comedy Chance which she also directed and wrote with Christopher Golden. She also produced and directed the animated film Ghosts of Albion: Legacy for BBC.

Benson's genre appearances include Intermedio, Gryphon, and One-Eyed Monster. She has also contributed to Buffyverse by working with Terry Moore and Eric Powell of Dark Horse Comics on the creation of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow and Tara comic "WannaBlessedBe". She also worked with Christopher Golden on Wilderness #1 and Wilderness #2 and artist Ben Templesmith on Demon Father John’s Pinwheel Blues.
