Alyssa Milano

Alyssa Milano (b. December 19, 1972 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American actress born to Italian-American parents Tom and Lin Milano. Milano is best known for roles in the sitcom Who's the Boss? as Samantha Micelli and Charmed as Phoebe Halliwell She grew up in Staten Island with younger brother, Cory, also an actor


Career

Milano began her career on stage in a national tour of the musical, Annie after beating out hundreds of others for the role. Following the experience, she appeared in commercials and off Broadway productions. At age 11 she won her first TV series role in Who's the Boss playing the daughter of Tony Danza's character. Her family moved to Hollywood to accommodate her career.

In 1985, Milano appeared in Commando opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger as the daughter of his character. The role made her famous in Japan and she signed an album deal with Pony Cannon. Milano released her album Look in My Heart which became a #1 hit in Japan. Four more successful albums followed.

As Milano grew up, she had difficulty shedding the innocence of her Who's the Boss role. She took on more adult roles in Casualties of Love: The :Long Island Lolita Story, Conflict of Interest and Candles in the Dark. Mainstream success returned with appearances on Melrose Place and Spin City. In 1998, Milano took on the role of Phoebe Halliwell in the supernatural series Charmed. The series ran for eight seasons and Milano became one of the shows producers in the series' fifth season.

Milano returned to the stage in Wendy Wasserstein's Tender Offer, All Night long, and a musical version of Jayne Eyre. She also appeared on stage in Los Angeles in Butterflies are Free.

Her genre appearances include Embrace of the Vampire, Double Dragon, The Outer Limits episode "Caught in the Act", and Fantasy Island episode "Superfriends". Voice roles include Dinotopia: Quest for the Ruby Sunstone, and The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.


Personal Life

Milano married Cinjun Tate in January, 1999 and they divorced in the same year. She was also engaged to Scott Wolf before the couple separated.

Milano is a National Abassador for UNICEF (United Nation's Children's Fund) and a supporter of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
