In the Star Trek universe, the alpha quadrant refers to one quarter of the Milky Way where Earth and the United Federation of Planets is located. The quadrant is also home to the Klingon empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union and the Ferengi Alliance, which comprise several of the most powerful political entities in the quadrant.
