Alicia Silverstone (October 4, 1976 San Francisco, California ) is an American actor and the youngest of three children born to Monty and Didi Silverstone. She began her career in entertainment when her father showed pictures od her that helped her win roles in television commercials. Commercials led to a television guest role on The Wonder Years. She made her film debut in The Crush portraying a teen dangerously obsessed with a much older man. The role won her a 1994 MTV movie award for her "Breakthrough Performance" and "Best Villain". Silverstone became an emancipated minor allowing her to work more hours as an actress.

She became a household name to mainstream audiences with her portrayal of Cher Horowitz in Clueless and wowed music video fans in an Aerosmith video with Steven Tyler's daughter, Liv. Following her breakout hit with Clueless, she went on to more mainstream roles. She played Batgirl (although not as Barbara Gordon) in 1997's big-screen Batman & Robin. Her appearance in the film was panned and several less popular films like Excess Baggage with Benicio Del Toro and Blast From the Past with Brendan Fraser followed.

She tried her hand at television with the short-lived series Miss Match. Her second foray into genre film, Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed was a modest success. She also appeared in the independent films, Love Labor's Lost based on the Shakespeare play and directed by Kenneth Branagh and Global Heresey.

In recent years, Silverstone has become a spokesperson for the PETA group and adopted a vegan lifestyle in her support for animals and vegetarianism.
