Alice Hoffman

Alice Hoffman (b. March 16, 1952 (New York City, New York) is an American author of adult, young adult, and children's fiction. Her best known novel is Practical Magic which was brought to the screen in 1998 and starred Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

Hoffman grew up on Long Island. She attended Adelphi University where she earned her BA. She then received a Mirrellees Fellowship to the Stanford University Creative Writing Center, which she attended in 1973 and 74, and received her MA in creative writing.

Hoffman's first published novel was Property Of which she wrote at twenty-one. The novel was published shortly after her graduation from Stanford by Farrar Straus and Giroux. Since then, Hoffman has become the author of several novels for adults including the Oprah Bookclub bestseller Here on Earth, as well as short stories and fiction for young adults and children.

Hoffman's novels occasionally include fantastic elements and often focus on love and relationships. Among her most notable works is the novel Aquamarine which was made into a feature film for young adults and starred Emma Roberts.
