Alexandre Aja (born Alexandre Jouan Arcady on August 7, 1978 in Paris, France) is a French writer and director and the son of director Alexandre Arcady and French cinema critic Marie-Jo Jouan. He made his directorial debut at 18 with the film The Rainbow which won a Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival for best short film. Aja has worked primarily on horror films and his work includes the 2006 remake The Hills Have Eyes, and Switchblade Romance. Aja won critical acclaim for his work on the French slasher film Haute Tension. His upcoming films include Mirrors a tale about a strange mirror which draws out a person's worst qualities. Also in production is the creature feature Piranha which features prehistoric flesh-eating fish freed from a lake floor by an earthquake.
