Alex Winter (b. July 17, 1965) is an English-American actor, screenwriter and director best known for his role as Bill S. Preston esq. in the films Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Winter was born in London to two dancers and studied dance as a child. The family moved to St. Louis Missouri where he began studying acting. He moved to New York in 1984 where he attended New York University and studied film writing and editing. He also began acting on stage and made his Broadway debut in The King and I.
Winter made his film debut in Death Wish 3 as Hermosa. His first significant role was in the vampire film, The Lost Boys playing Marko. His first starring role was the surprise hit Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure in which he starred alongside Keanu Reeves as goofy teens destined to be saviors of the future. He followed up with the comedy The Idiot Box which he wrote, directed and starred and the Bill & Ted sequel, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.
Winter's next project also had him writing and directing with Tom Stern and Tim Burns and acting alongside Brooke Shields and Randy Quaid in the scifi comedy Freaked. Winter has focused mainly on behind the scene projects appearing on screen only occasionally. He appeared in the 1997 film The Borrowers guest starred on Bones and had an uncredited role in Fever.
