Alessandro Juliani, who plays Lt. Gaeta on The SCI FI Channel TV series Battlestar Galactica, was
born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. He made his television debut at the age of 11, as Julio, the piano-playing street-kid on the 1986 MacGyver Christmas Special. Critics and audiences raved, but they would have to wait almost a decade before Juliani returned to the small screen, showing his range as a unibrowed transsexual alien in the short-lived but imaginative television series Welcome to Paradox.
In the years between those two roles, Juliani studied opera and voice at McGill University in Montreal, pursuing a curriculum that culminated in a lead role in the opera Albert Herring at the prestigious Britten/Pears Festival in Aldeburgh, England.
Since returning to Vancouver in 1999, he has worked steadily in film, television, theater, opera, and, most recently, as a composer and sound designer.
His on-camera credits include the SCI FI Channel miniseries Legend of Earthsea, the telefilm Meltdown, the Showtime original series Jeremiah, a recurring role as Druid on Dark Angel, the SCI FI Original Miniseries Event Steven Spielberg Presents Taken, the SCI FI Original Series Stargate SG-1, Seven Days, the horror feature Final Destination, and Anne-Marie Fleming's award-winning short film Blue Skies, for which he received a Leo Nomination.
