History

Alana first appeared in the season 2 episode, " Life Interrupted" in which NTAC agent Tom Baldwin found himself in an alternate reality where the 4400 did not exist. Tom discovered a woman living in his home. When he did not recognize her, his family informed him she was his wife, Alana.

Alana revealed to Tom that the reality was alien to her as well and she did not remember him either. She was the only one who shared Tom's memory of the reality Tom believed to be the real one. Alana and Tom grew closer and at first Tom searched for a way out but he and Alana eventually fell in love and Tom stopped looking for a way to leave the ideal reality where Kyle became a doctor and he and Alana married and lived happily for eight years.

This ideal world was not meant to last. Tom discovered a door that led him to a strange room where people from the future informed him that Alana was responsible for creating the reality they'd lived in for several years. She was a 4400 and her gift was given to her in order to help and support him.

With Tom’s help, Alana destroyed the false reality and the two returned to the much more complicated real world and discovered that despite the years they'd spent together, no time had passed in the real world. Alana and Tom continued their relationship and moved in together, stunning Tom's son Kyle.

Alana, true to her purpose, supported Tom through the difficult times he faced. When Kyle went missing after Jordan Collier's assassination, she searched his room and found a key to a locker. The locker contained evidence that Kyle had killed Jordan Collier. Alana and Tom tried to cover it up and she arranged for his escape to Spain but Kyle chose to turn himself in.

Alana soon became ill with a disease caused by the promicin inhibitor given to the returnees by NTAC Medical. She began to confuse reality with the one she'd created. A cure was eventually found and Alana was returned to health. Free of the promicin inhibitor, Alana's abilities began to grow.

With Kyle in prison and life growing more complicated, Tom depended more and more on Alana. She used her abilities to create alternate reality escapes for them so he could relax. She also began attending seminars at The 4400 Center.

Alana eventually took a teaching position at the center despite Tom's discomfort with the situation. After the NTAC conspiracy to inhibit the 4400s ability was revealed, the 4400 became wary of the government. Alana shared some of their feelings and began spending more time with other 4400. Her sympathies led her to tip off Gary Navarro, a 4400 affiliated with the Nova Group, an organization listed as terrorist by the government.

Tom was stunned to discover Alana was involved with NOVA and had sabotaged his attempt to arrest Navarro. Alana gave herself over to Dennis Ryland and Tom tried to free her. He decided to find Gary and trade him for Alana but later changed his plan and arranged for Gary and Alana to leave Seattle and go on the run.

Alana returned to Seattle after Tom Contacted her, asking for her help with Jordan Collier. Collier had returned but had no memory of who he was. Alana used her abilities to help him remember. Despite her aid to NTAC, Alana had to leave again but was eventually allowed to return permanently if she promised to help NTAC in the future. She agreed but refused to do anything that would harm the 4400.

In the season 3 finale "Fifty-Fifty" Alana was called on to interrogate Shawn. She initially refused but eventually agreed when Tom convinced her that NTAC would be forced to turn him over to people who would do worse. Alana never got the chance to do so, as Isabelle got to him first, putting him in a coma.

Realizing that the sacrifice her job required may be too great Diana Skouris, Tom's partner decided to leave Seattle for Spain with her boyfriend Ben and her daughter Maia. As they left, Maia, a clairvoyant, informed Alana that when they returned in six months, Alana would not be there. Not long after, Alana disappeared in a blinding flash of light. A painting at the Powell Museum created by Claude Pierrot revealed that Alanna was sent back to the 19th century.

Character

Alana was previously married to Paul and the two had a son, Billy. Both were killed in an accident by a drunk driver. Alana discovered the driver's identity from one of her students, Todd Barstow whose ability was to see other people's pain. Alana sought out Keane Driscoll and discovered he'd joined AA. Alana was determined to make sure he understood her pain. Her plan went awry when Driscoll killed himself and Alana was remorseful.

Alana is a well rounded woman. She runs a gallery in Seattle and enjoys art, cooking, and caring for her family. She's empathetic and understanding. She has been Tom's greatest support and the two are deeply in love. They have not remarried since leaving the alternate reality but they are very much a husband and wife team.
