Alan Rickman (born February 21, 1946) is a British actor and director.

Rickman made his television debut in as Tybalt in a 1978 telefilm of Romeo and Juliet. In science fiction, fantasy and adventure films, he is known for his roles as Jamie in Anthony Minghella's 1991 ghost story Truly Madly Deeply, the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), Alexander Dane/Doctor Lazarus in Galaxy Quest (1999), and Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films.

He directed the film The Winter Guest (1997) and provided the voice of Marvin the Robot in the film of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005).
