Officer Aeryn Sun is a fictional character on the TV Series Farscape played by Claudia Black. Aeryn is a Sebacean and was once a pilot and elite soldier in the Peacekeeper corps working under commanding officer Bialar Crais. As a peacekeeper, she was trained for a narrow purpose and had her entire life planned out before her like all peacekeeper soldiers.

History

Aeryn was a loyal and devoted officer until she came into contact with John Crichton and the escaped prisoners aboard Moya. When she spoke up on John's behalf espousing her belief that his part in the death of Crais' brother was accidental, she was termed contaminated and became a fugitive.

Aeryn was forced to adjust to the idea that she no longer had a home among the Peacekeepers. She also had to broaden her horizons. As a soldier she was not trained to perform science or technical tasks but when her crewmates depended on her, she adapted, learned, and was proud of herself. She learned more about herself living on Moya than all her years as a peacekeeper.

When the crew of Moya was offered a map home by the scientist Namtar, Aeryn felt left out and sought knowledge of a Sebacean colony she could call home someday. Instead, Namtar injected her with DNA from Pilot and she began to transform into an odd creature. Though the process was reversed, some effects of the transformation remained and she developed a closer link with Pilot and an innate understanding of how to operate Moya. The relationship between Aeryn and Pilot was nearly destroyed when he discovered that Aeryn was complicit in the murder of Moya's first pilot. It took time, but their relationship eventually mended.

Her connection to Moya enabled her to connect with Moya's son, Talyn, whom she named for her father. She lived aboard Talyn for a short while where she came into contact with her mother, Xhalax Sun who was tasked with returning Talyn and Aeryn to the Peacekeepers. Aeryn, unlike most peacekeepers was a child of love rather than engineering. As a result Xhalax was forced to kill Aeryn's father Talyn Lyczak to prove her loyalty to the Peackeepers. She attempted to trap Aeryn but Aeryn saw through it and eluded her.

Aeryn & John

John was immediately drawn to Aeryn when they met and though Aeryn was reluctant to involve herself with him, they grew closer and fell in love. Their relation was difficult, and often painful. Even though she was in love with John she had difficulty acknowledging it and when she did and formed a strong bond with one of two John Crichtons (he'd been twinned) he died and she was devastated.

Living with the surviving Chichton proved difficult for her but the two eventually renewed their bond. Aeryn became pregnant with Crichton's child and Crichton proposed. The two were attacked and disintegrated into thousands of crystal fragments. They were reconstituted but the baby was missing, Rygel had eaten one of the crystal fragments containing the baby. The baby was eventually transferred back to Aeryn's body and she gave birth to a son in the midst of a Peacekeeper battle. Crichton and Aeryn named their son D'Argo Sun-Crichton.

(John grabs her wrist) John: No! It's for your clothes... and the cord.

Aeryn: Oh, right.

Crichton: "Yea...yea I...I'm all right. Thanks for watching my backside."
