A for Andromeda is a British television serial. The series was written by cosmologist Fred Hoyle and John Elliot and aired on BBC in 1961. A sequel to the series, The Andromeda Breakthrough debuted the following summer, in 1962.

Premise

In 1970, a group of scientists receive signals from space. The decoded signals reveal instructions on building a super computer, which, in turn creates a girl called Andromeda from one of their deceased colleagues. One of the scientists, fearing that she has been created to subjugate humanity, determines that the powerful computer must be destroyed. The serial was remade in 2006 in an 85 minute TV movie that also aired on BBC.
