Plot

Baltar volunteers to investigate a Cylon base star adrift in the Lion's Head Nebula and discovers that it has been infected with a disease transmitted by an ancient human probe brought aboard the vessel. He informs the Cylons he discovered nothing.

Athena and Racetrack jump ahead of the fleet to the Nebula and discover the vessel. Apollo and Athena lead a team back to the ship where they discover many dead Cylons but find five severely ill but still alive. They bring them back to Galactica and the team is placed in quarantine. The virus is identified as harmless to humans and Athena as well, thanks to the baby she carried.

The other Cylons however can be treated but not cured. The Cylon, Simon, hoping for a cure reveals that the virus can be transferred during the resurrection process into their new bodies and be spread to others. He also tells them that Baltar is alive and helping the Cylons find Earth.

On the Cylon baseship, D'Anna and Caprica Six come to believe Baltar is trying to deceive him and D'Anna decides to torture him into confessing. Baltar retreats inwards with his inner Six to escape.

Lee realizes that the virus may be the best hope for ending the Cylon threat. If they can get within close range of a Cylon resurrection ship, they can execute their Cylon prisoners causing them to download into new bodies and transmit their illness to the Cylon fleet eventually wiping out the race altogether. Helo argues that it would be an act of genocide, inherently wrong. He informs his wife of the situation but she refuses to do anything that would betray her human friends.

Roslin is determined to go through with the plan to safeguard humanity but when the plan is undertaken it is discovered the prisoners were killed before they could get in range of the base ship. An act of sabotage resulted in the air in the compartment being withdrawn. Though it is apparent that Helo is responsible, Adama informs the president that he will not penalize him and he is relived the plan failed as the destruction of an entire race would only serve to make them less human.
