A Fire Upon the Deep is a 1992 novel by Vernor Vinge. The novel won the 1993 Hugo Award for best novel (tied with Connie Willis' Doomsday Book).

Synopsis

A spaceship crashes on an unfamiliar planet. A rescue mission is undertaken to recover the only survivors, two children, and a weapon that may be able to prevent the destruction of the universe.
