A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court is a novel by American humorist, Mark Twain. One of the earliest examples of time travel fiction, the novel centered on Hank Morgan, a 19th century Connecticut gentleman who, through unknown means, awakens to discover he has traveled several centuries into the past to Arthurian times, AD 528. There he meets the well known characters of Arthurian legend, Sir Lancelot of Camelot and King Arthur. Hank uses his modern knowledge to bring improvements and impressive inventions to a superstitious time.
The novel was adapted several times for film, television and stage. Other variations on the novel's them, taking the general idea but rejecting characters and plot points also emerged such as A Kid in King Arthur's Court, and the Martin Lawrence comedy, Black Knight.
