28 Days Later is a 2002 post apocalyptic British film from director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland. The film is set in England and concerns the aftereffects of an outbreak of a plague known as rage which turns people into violent zombie-like creatures who are driven to infect others. The plague spreads rapidly throughout the country leaving only a few uninfected survivors who must band together to survive. The film was released in the UK on November 1, 2002 and met with both critical and commercial success. The film's success ultimately led to a sequel, 28 Weeks Later.
