Spoiler Warning: Plot details and/or information about the ending follow. If you wish to enjoy the work first, stop reading here and return at another time.

Four strangers on a faith mission of sorts, travel to an ancient temple in central Mexico on December 12, 2012, a long awaited date, and the last recorded date on the Mayan calendar. For NASA, the date represents a potentially cataclysmic shift in the magnetic poles and for everyone else, it may be the end of the world as they know it.

Dale Midkiff plays an archaeologist, Frank, working near a Volcano on the verge of erupting in Orizaba, Mexico 36 hrs before doomsday. Caroline Amiguet plays, Frank's estranged wife, Dr. Trish Lane who arrives on site as the excavation team prepares to evacuate. When a quake opens up a chamber, Frank and Trish investigate and discover a crucifix within the chamber. They manage to escape as the volcano erupts and are left pondering the meaning of a Christian symbol inside Mayan ruins. Frank wants to fulfill a Mayan prophecy and bring the cross to the Pyramid at Chichen Itza. Along the way Trish struggles and her strength eventually fails, but not before she gets Franks promise to bring the cross to the Pyramid

At the US Geological Survey Center in Baltimore, Maryland, 24 hours before the event, scientists explore the facts. Seismic activity has increased. Climate changes have also occurred. Scientist, Lloyd believes the reason is due to the Earth's rotation slowing as the solar system aligns with the black hole at the galactic core. He contacts his daughter, working in Mexico hoping to encourage her to find safety bur decides to go to Mexico himself and learns along the way that his journey is all in god's plan.

In San Diego, paramedic Susan struggles with her unwillingness to believe in god in the face of all the pain and death she has seen. Nevertheless, she is drawn to the pyramid at Chichen Itza, and her mother believes this is a sign of God. As a child she drew the pyramid overlaid by a cross and recently saw a similar tattoo on the wrist of a dying man. The two decide to drive into Mexico heading for Chichen Itza but along the way, her mother disappears and Susan rediscovers her faith.

Lloyd's daughter, Sarah, a missionary working in Mexico runs across a photographer, Alex, while looking for a doctor for her sick villagers. The two attempt to help a pregnant woman as temperatures drop and snow begins to fall. Sarah is convinced that it is her destiny to take this woman to Chichen Itza. Alex wants to take her to the city for medical help but agrees to help them. Along the way, he is killed by a hail storm that comes from out of nowhere, leaving Sarah and their pregnant passenger, now in labour, alone.

On the way from the airport, heading towards the Pyramid, Lloyd comes across Susan and the two make their way to Chichen Iza together. There they meet Frank, Sarah, and the pregnant woman who gives birth on the altar as told in the Prophecy. Around the world, cities burn and flood. The four believe they've been chosen to spread the word of god's love to the remaining non believers in the world.
