2010: The Year We Make Contact, known simply as 2010 is a 1984 film sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey based on the novel 2010: Odyssey Two by Arthur C. Clarke. Peter Hyams directed the film and wrote the screenplay.

Plot

Nine years after the failure of the Discovery mission to Jupiter, The USSR develops an advanced engine that enables an American team to join them on a mission to uncover what went wrong with the Discovery mission. Amidst mounting global tension, the team tries to discover why HAL 9000 malfunctioned and the reasons behind the appearance of a black monolith in orbit of Jupiter.
