2006 in Television <span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span> In terms of speculative fiction television programming, the following events happened and shows aired in 2006.
Events2006 marked the beginning of the end for longest-running science fiction program, Stargate SG-1 as the Sci Fi Channel announced that it would be cancelling the series after it finished its run in early 2007. In broadcast TV, the biggest new series for both CBS and NBC were genre shows with NBC's Heroes shining as the biggest new hit of the year. At CBS, post-apocalyptic Jericho also was considered a hit. The year also saw the death of UPN and The WB networks. Each was merged into the other to form a new television network in The CW.
