2001: A Space Odyssey is one of Arthur C. Clarke's best known novels and the first in his Space Odyssey series. The novel was developed alongside the Stanley Kubrick film of the same name and published after the movie's release. The novel's plot incorporates ideas established in several short stories by Clarke including The Sentinel, Encounter at Dawn and Rescue Party.
