In terms of speculative fiction television programming, the following events happened and shows aired in 1999.

Events

1999 saw the debut of Farscape on the Sci Fi Channel, the landmark series gained critical acclaim for the channel. Sci FI also debuted new series First Wave and struck many deals with independent production companies to share a dual Sci Fi/syndication window for airing original programming.

The year also saw the emergence of Tribune Entertainment as a major player in genre television. The company debuted four news series on its flagship WGN cable and satellite TV network and sold the shows into syndication.
