Events

In 1998, the final season of Babylon 5 wrapped up on cable station TNT. Its spin-off, Crusade was short lived.

The year also saw a move by the Sci Fi Channel to get into original programming in a big way. The network picked up Sliders, which had been cancelled by FOX the previous year. Sci FI also debuted its first original series, Welcome to Paradox.

The biggest debut of 1998 was Charmed on The WB. The Aaron Spelling series gained much attention for its return of Shannen Doherty to the airwaves. It was a popular, if not critical success. Although it originally aired on Wednesday nights, the show became a consistent hit for the fledgling network and was eventually moved to Sundays, where Charmed was the anchor show until the network signed off seven years later.
